Where winter doesn’t exist ...

Tenerife is one of the Canary Islands, located in the Atlantic Ocean. The size of the island is 2053 km. The island is 85 km long and 52 km wide. Tenerife is the largest island of the Canary Islands. The central part of the island is mountainous and is dominated by the more than 3,700 m high volcano “Pico del Teide”, what makes it the highest mountain of Spain.

The Canary Islands is an archipelago of seven islands in the Atlantic Ocean, west of Morocco. All seven islands are of volcanic origin, but have a great variety of landscapes, from sandy desert to tropical forest. Because of its location and its subtropical climate, the Canary Islands are suitable for vacations during the whole year. The diversity of the islands offers something for everyone. The seven inhabited islands are: Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro. The largest of the group is Tenerife with an area of 2,053 km2, the second largest is Fuerteventura with 1,731 km2. The total area of the islands is 7,273 km2 and their population is of 1.7 million inhabitants.

Nature

The Island has two different climatic situations. The north is often hidden under a layer of clouds. There is a lot more rainfall during the year than in the south and its vegetation is much richer.

The southern part of the island is dry and dusty, the sun shines almost daily, and rainfall is only infrequent. The vegetation here is mainly composed of palm trees, low shrubs and cacti. It is mainly specialized in banana plantations, tomato production and vineyard. Due to the fantastic Canary climate, where the winter doesn’t exist and even in summer the heat is bearable, many original plants and animals have been found there.
